Warm Tips

The scale screening can generally only reflect the degree of symptoms. According to the World Health Organization standard (ICD10), the diagnosis of depression needs to be combined with the following four aspects:

  1. Symptom standard: The presence of typical symptoms of depression can generally be obtained through scale screening.
  2. Degree standard: When the symptom standard indicates depression, whether the state has caused social function impairment (such as a significant decrease in work efficiency, a significant decrease in academic performance, etc.); or has caused substantial pain or other substantial adverse consequences to the individual. This situation can be judged by the individual.
  3. Course of illness criteria: When the symptom criteria indicate depression, whether the state has lasted for at least 2 consecutive weeks (continuity). This criterion is mainly to exclude occasional, temporary depression in life, or depression caused by major emergencies (such as the death of a loved one). This situation can be judged by the individual.
  4. Exclusion criteria: When the symptom criteria indicate depression, exclude whether the depressive symptoms are caused by organic diseases, psychoactive substances, etc., because, for example, some physical symptoms of depression can also be caused by many organic diseases. This situation generally requires medical examinations in regular hospitals to exclude. At the same time, mental disorders such as bipolar disorder (manic depression) that are easily confused with depression should also be excluded.

According to ICD-10, the diagnosis of depression can generally only be considered as depression when the above four criteria are met at the same time. Depression and depressive mood are easily confused. It is necessary to go to a regular hospital for a comprehensive examination.
